RFU National League One: Stourbridge 18 Cinderford 25

The Fat Lady is clearing her throat in readiness after Stourbridge fluffed their lines against relegation rivals Cinderford to leave them with a mountain of Himalayan proportions to climb to reach safety.

With seven games left there are still 35 points for third-bottom Stour to play for – but it will need 16 of them, almost half, just to close the gap on Wharfedale.

Once again Stour gave their opponents a start – 18-8 at the break which became 25-8 two minutes into the restart.

Stourbridge then battled back to 25-18 just past the hour but even when Cinderford had two men in the sin-bin for virtually the last ten minutes, Stour failed to take advantage.

Director of rugby, Neil Mitchell, said: “It was an unbelievable display. Everyone knew what was at stake and we had prepared properly and then lost the ball from the kick-off.”
