RFU Championship: Plymouth Albion 21 Moseley 20

Moseley remain entrenched in the bottom four of the Championship after losing to fellow strugglers Plymouth Albion at Brickfields on Friday night, but they had the small consolation of a losing bonus point.

Coming off the back of heavy home defeat against Rotherham Titans, head coach Kevin Maggs brought Craig Voisey, Dan Sanderson and Mike Ellery into the line-up.

Moseley’s preparation for the game wasn’t helped by the team coach getting stuck in traffic and the visitors only arrived 35 minutes before kick-off. Moseley flyhalf Brad Davies lined up against his former club, while Plymouth welcomed back Canadian international No8 Aaron Carpenter.

Moseley raced into an early lead when quick hands put fullback Anthony Carter over.

Right wing Ollie Thomas converted before Albion’s top points scorer James Love opened his side’s account with a penalty.

When Albion missed touch with a penalty, Moseley ran the ball back and flanker Chevvy Pennycook crashed over, with Thomas again adding the extras.

Love replied with a fine individual try as Moseley went into the break leading 14-8.

Thomas and Love exchanged second-half penalties before Plymouth were awarded a penalty try for a collapsed scrum.

Love added the simple conversion for a one-point lead.

Moseley had a late chance to win the match but Thomas came up short with a long-range penalty attempt.
