RFU Championship: Cornish Pirates 32 Birmingham & Solihull 15
Birmingham & Solihull director of rugby Russell Earnshaw was furious with his side as they let slip a 15-7 lead with only 16 minutes of normal time left.
Two tries in the final minute of the game saw them return home without even a bonus point.
“A game of rugby is not 60 minutes long,” said Earnshaw. “It would be easy to pull out the injuries excuse, but we made some poor decisions at the end of the game that ultimately cost us a bonus point, or win, which was there for the taking.
“I don’t like picking people out but Simon Hunt, one of our star players, threw the ball away in the opposition half when all we needed to do was build a bit of pressure and take three points.
“There is no point being a plucky loser every week.”
Bees scored two tries in three second-half minutes, the first by flanker Jack Preece then winger Hunt intercepted a pass and ran 50 metres, with fly-half Sam Robinson converting to make it 15-7 to the visitors after 54 minutes but then came the Pirates’ comeback.
