Dear Editor, You do not have to be a Muslim, or live in a mainly Muslim area such as Washwood Heath or Sparkbrook, to see that these overt and covert spy cameras are wrong.
They stigmatise the whole community for the possible actions of a tiny minority and will lead to a further alienation of young people in particular.
We would not like a policeman following us every time we left our house. But that is what it is like to have these intrusive cameras all over the place. They are not about combatting crime; they say that if you have a brown skin and live in a certain area you are a terrorist suspect. These areas have the highest unemployment in Birmingham. They need jobs and a future, not millions of pounds spent on discriminatory surveillance.
