Tamworth's FA Cup heroics counted for little as Nationwide Conference leaders Accrington Stanley pushed the Lambs deeper into relegation trouble last night.

Accrington's 2-1 victory at The Lamb opened a six-point advantage at the top of the table, while second from bottom Lambs remain one point behind Scarborough.

Paul Mullin opened the scoring for the visitors inside three minutes when he powered home a header from Gary Roberts' cross.

But the Lambs were level six minutes before half-time. Jake Edwards, who could be playing his last game on loan from Exeter City, was fouled by Michael Welch but the striker picked himself up to stroke home a penalty.

However, Ian Craney claimed the points with a right-foot shot from Romuald Boco's pass in the 56th minute.

Les Hines missed a penalty as Worcester City tumbled to a disappointing defeat at fellow Nationwide North strugglers Vauxhall Motors.

Carl O'Donnell's 32nd-minute strike proved enough to secure the points for the Ellesmere Port hosts but City has a glorious chance to level after the break. Adam Webster was upended but defender Hines blasted the spot-kick high and wide.

New manager Rod Brown suffered a frustrating first home match in charge of Bromsgrove Rovers as they lost 2-0 at home to Marlow in Southern One West.

Both goals came in the first half, Adam Dickins scoring after three minutes and Johnny Issac doubling the lead just before half-time.

Unlucky Bedworth United conceded an injury-time goal to allow leaders Ashford Town to win 2-1 at the Oval. Lee Moore gave the hosts a 70th-minute lead but Ryan Lake (penalty) and Scott Harris snatched the points.

Leamington new signing Jody McKay grabbed his first goal for the club but the Brakes drew 1-1 in their Harvey World Travel Midland Alliance clash at home to Barwell. McKay, signed from Banbury, put Leamington in front from a tenth-minute James Husband cross but Scott Clamp levelled with 16 minutes left.

Boldmere St Michaels' surge up the table was halted by a 2-1 home defeat to Coalville. Mikes striker Mykel Beckley cancelled out an early Martin Fox effort but Jason Knight fired home the winner two minutes later.
