A rare violin, made in Dublin and dating back more than 200 years, has been unearthed in Lichfield and is expected to command more than £2,000 when it is sold at auction later this month.

Charles Hanson, manager of Hansons Auctioneers, said the violin was Stradivarian in outline and in good condition.

The auction is at Derby’s Mackworth Hotel on April 23.
