Detectives are investigating an allegation of rape, two assaults and criminal damage after a party at a village hall.

Between 150 and 200 young people aged between 14 and 20 attended the party last Saturday night in Alton, near Cheadle, Staffordshire.

A 14-year-old girl has alleged she was raped during the evening and two teenage boys were assaulted.

Two doors were ripped off in the boys' toilet as well as three sinks pulled off the wall, police said. A water heater and floors were also damaged.

Staffordshire Police in Leek want anyone who may have been at the party to get in touch. It is believed the youngsters came from the surrounding area.

Crime reduction officers are also said to be looking to offer advice to village halls on safety precautions when hiring out venues.

These would include correct supervision and security procedures to prevent illegal consumption of alcohol and problems of "gate-crashing".
