A police officer arrested on suspicion of rape and serious sexual assault has been released on bail.
The unnamed West Mercia officer, who was suspended in June in relation to a separate allegation of assault, was bailed on Friday night.
He will now have to return to a West Mercia police station at a future date.
So far no details have been released about the officer's rank or where he is based, but his force covers the counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
Following his arrest on Thursday a West Mercia police spokeswoman confirmed: "We did have an officer suspended in June in relation to a separate allegation of assault. That officer was arrested today."
The arrest came after a complaint to local police, and the officer was detained in Blackpool before being transferred to a different station.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is overseeing the investigation which will be carried out by the Professional Standards Department of West Mercia Constabulary.
