A man has died after being struck by a train close to Birmingham Airport on the line between Coventry and Birmingham International railway stations.

Paramedics were called to Tile Hill Station just after 9am but nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Passengers experienced delays of up to 45 minutes.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the alarm was raised by staff onboard a passing train, which was not believed to have been involved in the death.

The spokesman said: “Once trains had been stopped, ambulance staff walked along the track until they came across the patient.

“Sadly, it was immediately obvious that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
