A man was fighting for his life in hospital last night after a suspected racist attack outside a supermarket.

He is one of two Asian men who were set upon outside the Costcutter store, in Leicester, on Saturday evening after an "altercation" with a group of white men, said police.

The 22-year-old remained in a "critical but stable" condition in Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre, they said.

The second victim, also 22, was kept in overnight at the Leicester Royal Infirmary but later discharged after treatment.

Ten people, aged between 15 and 22, have been arrested in connection with the incident, said Leicestershire Police. Of those held, two 17-year-old males and one 18-year-old man are still being interviewed by detectives.

At this stage, police said they are treating the incident as a "potential racially-motivated crime". ..SUPL:
