Frank Betteridge’s selfless dedication to the voluntary sector has earned him the title of MBE.

Mr Betteridge, aged 78, from Wednesbury, has been volunteering for 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down.

He’s chairman of Sandwell Young Carers, chairman of Sandwell Community Caring Trust and a board member of Victoria Visiting venture, which looks after domiciliary care in the community.

Mr Betteridge, who is married to Ann, said: “I spend about 20 hours a week and my volunteering work keeps me busy throughout my retirement.

"My wife is delighted. This sort of thing doesn’t happen to me, it happens to other people. I’m over the moon and I intend to keep going.”
