West Midlands entrepreneur Angela Maxwell has been made OBE for services to business.
Ms Maxwell, who is a board member at Advantage West Midlands and the West Midlands Enterprise Board, joined the family-run business Fracino in Birmingham, the UK’s only manufacturer of espresso and cappuccino machines, in 1995.
Within a decade, the company’s turnover had quintupled, the workforce trebled and bespoke products developed for Costa, Cadbury Schweppes and Unilever.
She is now managing director of Acuwoman, a company which advises SMEs on business strategy, as well as advising Advantage West Midlands on business-support issues through the Enterprise Board.
She said: “Business creates jobs and wealth and I am pleased it continues to be given due credit with this honour as I believe it is only through energy and innovation that the country will emerge from recession.”
