Pubs and bars in Solihull are become smoke-free zones for 24 hours, as part of No Smoking Day next month.
Seventeen venues in the town's Pub Watch s cheme have joined forces with Solihull Primary Care Trust's tobacco control team.
Landlords expect this to be their first trial of a full smoking ban, which is likely to be invoked after tomorrow's free vote over whether all bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants should stub it out.
Paul Thompson, of The Saddlers Arms, said: "We as pub landlords support the ban and see No Smoking Day as the perfect opportunity to introduce a ban for the day to assess the impact on customers and business.
"On March 8 all town centre pubs in Solihull will be offering a smoke-free venue for customers to enjoy.
"If people do wish to smoke we obviously cannot stop them but in the spirit of No Smoking Day we would ask that people smoke outside or refrain altogether."
Natalie Hinsley, tobacco control coordinator for Solihull PCT, said: "Here in Soli-hull we have been working very hard through the Solihull Alliance and our Time 2 Quit Service to encourage businesses to become smoke-free workplaces.
"We are delighted with the support being given by pubs in Solihull on No Smoking Day."
