Senior judges have rejected a last-ditch bid by protesters to stop the £30 million redevelopment of Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
Local residents opposing new floodlights, shops, offices and apartments surrounding the stadium have been refused a judicial review by the Court of Appeal after their claim that the planning process was flawed was dismissed.
It means that building work on the Warwickshire County Cricket Club ground, which began last month, can now go full steam ahead a will be completed by summer 2011, ensuring Test cricket remains in Birmingham.
Club chief executive Colin Povey said: “The redevelopment of the ground is critical to ensure Edgbaston keeps its competitive edge and remains in the race to secure international matches.”
Resident Vijay Sarathy admitted the legal avenues may be exhausted.
“I don’t know what more we can do. We will have to take legal advice,” he said.
