A dramatic image of Winston Churchill once took pride of place in Dudley town centre.

Now a Midland MP is calling for it to be restored - ready for the 50th anniversary of the great man’s death.

There are a great many people alive today who well remember Churchill. Nonetheless, the anniversary is a reminder that he is on his way to becoming truly a figure of history - someone who appears in the pages of history books rather than living in our memories.

We’re not there yet. But this is a good time to ensure that Churchill’s contribution to this country, and to the world, is never forgotten.

And his image represents more than one man. He symbolises a generation of people across the United Kingdom and what is now the Commonwealth, as well as volunteers from other nations who fought under the British flag, who sacrificed more than we can today imagine to defend the world from evil and tyranny.
