Alex McLeish has invited Portugal international Yannick Djalo for a trial at Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old striker is currently in limbo after a deal to take him from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon to Nice, in France, fell through on transfer deadline day.

Djalo, who has one cap for the senior Portugal side, reportedly revealed on his Facebook page today that he has actually signed for Villa.

But it is believed Djalo has simply been offered a trial so that manager McLeish can run the rule over him.

Villa will check out Djalo in training and possibly in practice matches before deciding whether to proceed with a move for him.

There is still some debate over which club holds the forward’s registration, although it is believed to be Sporting.

Jamaican international Omar Cummings arrived from American MLS club Colorado Rapids for a similar spell in January, but left without playing a single game with Villa after permit problems.
