Police searching for a Worcestershire man who went missing in 2008 have recovered his car and a body from the River Severn at Bewdley.

Officers said Damian Tudge's Peugeot 205 was found by an underwater search team near Bewdley Town FC, after specialist equipment brought in from the United States was used to scan the river bed.

A police spokesman said: "The body of a male was found in the car and is believed to be that of Mr Tudge, although formal identification has not yet taken place."

Officers are treating the death as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Mr Tudge was aged 41 when he was reported missing on November 14, 2008.
