Two West Midlands Police officers are to be honoured for their work in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami.
Detective Superintendent Derek Forest, Scientific Support Manager, and Detective Sergeant Jenny Pearson, from the Major Investigation Unit at Bournville Lane, Birmingham, were based in Thailand from February 2005 and returned to the UK last month.
The pair are to receive Chief Constable's Commendations for their contribution to the largest global policing operation ever undertaken, Operation Bracknell.
This involved the recovery, identification and repatriation of over 5,800 victims.
Det Supt Forest was appointed commander of the International Commission and led a team of experts from 31 nations. West Midlands Police said he was receiving an award for his diplomacy, integrity, skill and professionalism in commanding the international identification process.
Det Sgt Pearson worked with bereaved families and is being recognised for her diplomacy, skill, commitment and professionalism in the identification of victims.
