Worcestershire householders are being urged to ignore claims by security firm salesmen that their companies have links to the local police.
Residents in Worcester, Droitwich, Stourport, Kidderminster and Redditch have reported approaches by 'pushy' security firms alleging they are 'working with West Mercia Police'.
A West Mercia force spokesman urged householders to question the salesman over which particular officer he was working with. "It is not the force's policy to align itself in this way with any company," he said.
"Whilst we recognise, and would support, the wish of members of the public to safeguard their homes by installing alarms or CCTV systems our advice is to ignore cold canvassing 'pushy' approaches from security companies.
They can then make contact with that officer directly through our number on 08457 444 888."
