Police in Birmingham are investigating the suspicious death of a man in the Handsworth area.

Officers were alerted to the incident on Austin Road at 1pm on Sunday by a member of the public who dialled 999.

When police arrived, they discovered the body of a middle-aged man in a ground floor flat with serious injuries.

Ambulance staff attended the scene but nothing could be done to save him.

The man has not yet been identified and a forensic post mortem examination will take place in due course.
