A man, who was repeatedly stabbed in the stomach, staggered hundreds of yards looking for help, but later died on his way to hospital.

A passer-by spotted the 25-year-old lying unconscious in Finch Road, Lozells, Birmingham, at 8.15pm on Monday. Paramedics were called and rushed the victim to hospital, but he later died of his injuries. Police said they are treating his death as murder.

Finch Road and surrounding streets, including Heathfield Road, were sealed off while police carried out forensic tests yesterday.

Heathfield Primary, in Heathfield Road, which has almost 500 pupils, was forced to close as police worked at the scene.

Student Sarhana Akthar, of Canary Grove, Lozells, is a former pupil of Heathfield School. She said: "It is quite a close community and it is shocking what has happened here."
