Birmingham police are appealing for information after a schoolgirl was spotted calling for help from a car in Castle Vale.

The alleged incident happened at about 11.15am on Tuesday, September 14, when a member of the public reported seeing a distressed young girl in a car calling for help in Turnhouse Road.

The driver of the car was described as a white man in a grey Vauxhall Astra. The girl was described as mixed race, approximately 15 years old and in a school uniform. She is also alleged to have shouted for police to be called.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Edwards said: "After receiving the report, police visited local schools and conducted thorough checks into all absent pupils. The small handful of pupils who were not in school were then traced and accounted for.

"Police have received no reports of missing children or any further reports of suspicious behaviour.

"The driver and the girl may well be related. If this is a domestic related incident, we would urge the driver of the Vauxhall to come forward or the girl who was seen to be driven away.

"Since Tuesday, police have made a number of inquiries and followed some leads however nothing further has been discovered about the girl or the driver.

"Understandably, this has caused some concern for parents and local schools. We would like to reassure them police are continuing with inquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0345 113 5000 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
