Worcester Warriors are hoping a specially-commissioned poem will inspire the players and supporters to a second straight victory in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday.

The Sixways crowd will hear the new poem 'Trample those Tigers'  as it is read out over the public address system before their match with title contenders Leicester.  The ode, written by local poet Michael Thomas, was commissioned by club sponsor npower, and follow's Worcester's crucial away win over Sale last Friday night, which took the club ten points clear of bottom placed Leeds Tykes.

Thomas, a writer and part-time lecturer who lives in Stourport, said: "There is a long tradition of poets inspiring warriors on to great victories in battle. So what could be more apt than a special poem to help our beloved Warriors slay the Tigers?

Kevin Peake, head of customer marketing at npower, added: "As club sponsor's we hope this poem will inspire the team to run faster, tackle harder, and jump higher than the Tigers and stir everyone who's at Sixways Stadium on Saturday to really get behind the team."

Trample Those Tigers! by Michael Thomas

The Warriors are braced for their Tigerish game
To pile up the points, to trumpet their fame.
The Tigers are sleek and ferocious and sly
But they'll quake like mice at the Warriors' cry!

Each cat has its day, the Tigers must yield
And go rump over tip on the Warriors' shield.
Each ruck's been rehearsed with tight-shouldered prowess,
Each line-out refined with high-clutching finesse.

So who gives a thought now to games that are past?
The victory moment is Worcester's at last!
The Warriors will trample the Tigerish tail
And crush them - defeat them - to victory we'll sail!
