Dear Editor, I saw a production of David Mamet’s American Buffalo at the Crescent Theatre – and was blown away.

The actors showed an astonishing range, sliding effortlessly between hysterical ranting and pithy, downbeat observations.

The set was amazing – the designer had recreated a 1970s junk shop with fastidious care – no mean feat, considering the detail. The script felt very natural, and was thought-provoking without being preachy.

The ending was a genuine shock, and I, along with several other audience members, felt quite moved.

At a time when the nature of Birmingham’s arts is being questioned, I would urge all readers to support this magnificent show – I will be seeing it again tomorrow night.
