Kevin Phillips scored his first goal for Aston Villa as his new club beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 in a friendly at the Causeway Stadium.
Phillips took 24 minutes to score his first Villa goal when he latched on to a through ball from fellow summer signing Patrik Berger.
The former Southampton striker chested the ball down before lofting it over the goalkeeper to open the scoring.
Manager David O'Leary also gave starts to new arrival Aaron Hughes but Stuart Taylor started on the bench.
Peter Whittingham doubled Villa's lead on 67 minutes when he finished off good work from Nolberto Solano and Ulises de la Cruz.
