Contract talks between Kevin Phillips, the Coca-Cola Championship's leading scorer, and West Bromwich Albion have stalled, according to the player.
Speaking after last night's home draw against Crystal Palace, the striker, whose first half goal was his 200th in league football, said that he was surprised at how long the negotiations had taken but remains convinced that a deal can be brokered.
He said: "Not a lot is happening at the moment [regarding a contract], to be honest. We are at a sticking point at the moment and we have different views about how to move forward.
"But we know where we stand and I am sure it will get resolved. It is just taking a bit longer than the club thought and I thought, but this is probably going to be the last contract I sign so I am not going to sign it for the sake of it.
"It has to be right, it’s as simple as that. At the moment I am just focuising on helping West Brom get promoted."
Phillips admitted to being settled at The Hawthorns and has recently just bought a house in the area.
