A former professional footballer will join nine colleagues from recruitment firm Peopleline to tackle the Morrisons Great Birmingham 10k next month.

Based on Bennetts Hill in the city centre, the Peopleline team will be raising funds for Birmingham Children's Hospital as part of the race's Business Challenge.

Its team includes directors Richard Chandler and former Walsall and Kidderminster Harriers player James Cronin.

"We have a wide range of abilities, everyone's at different levels - from those who'll be happy to make it round to those who want to set a good time," said team coordinator Sharon Plevin.

"Others have signed up hoping that this will start them on their way to getting fit."

The Great Birmingham 10k takes place on May 3 and is being supported by the Birmingham Post.

Any size of company can take part in the Business Challenge and enter male, female or mixed teams which must have a minimum of two men and two women.

Teams must have four to eight runners but a company can enter as many teams as it wishes. All participants must be 16 years of age or over on race day.

Prizes will be awarded to the first three teams in each category. For more details and to enter visit www.greatrun.org.
