New laws to give every pensioner in England free bus travel have been proposed by a Midland MP.

Mike Foster (Lab Worcester) presented a Bill in the House of Commons designed to end the "postcode lottery" in concessionary fares.

He said it was unfair that free passes were issued to pensioners in Redditch and Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, and in Birmingham, but not to those in Worcester.

The Bill was the latest stage in Mr Foster's campaign to change the law. A previous attempt was unsuccessful last year.

The MP has also proposed abolishing district councils to make the scheme more affordable.

He said: "To have a postcode lottery for bus passes is unfair in principle.

"In practice, a bus pass would improve the quality of life for pensioners."
