Dear Editor, Centro’s “vision” is that within a few months all the most central bus stops, such as in Corporation Street, Stephenson Street, and Navigation Street, will be permanently removed with no nearby replacements, trashing 30 bus routes to make way for their profit-spinning metro extension.
And extensive traffic logjams can be predicted from the heavily increased bus/bus and bus/pedestrian conflicts around Moor Street.
Yet at no time has there ever been any consultation with bus users, or any consultation at all on this removal of the one remaining central bus corridor.
Centro have not even issued any honest publicity, but only ten years of misinformation instead, culminating in recent months in glossy leaflets misleadingly asserting there will be “temporary” changes to the bus stops.
This has now been laid bare and a judicial review challenge filed and served to stop it in its tracks (as detailed at www.tramscam.com). We are now awaiting a reply from the Department for Transport in the next week or two.
Meanwhile, perhaps Centro would like to write in to give their own answers to the following questions.
1) What words in what documents show the consultation of bus users or the consultation on loss of bus stops? Answer: No words in no documents because there has never been any such consultation.
2) Why haven’t Centro put up twopenny information posters on the affected bus stops, and instead only removed the ones I put there myself? Answer: Because glossy misinformation leaflets hidden in shy near-invisible exhibition buses are so much better at keeping the message in at far higher cost.
3) If the extension of the Metro down Corporation Street is a good idea, why has Centro gone to such lengths to avoid any consultation or even publicity about the removal of buses from Corporation Street? Answer: Because it isn’t a good idea, but rather would devastate the bus system and the transport system in general. Their profit?spinning Metro is the only thing that would benefit from the scheme.
