A teacher who had an affair with a 15-year-old pupil was caught out when the boy's parents found incriminating video footage on his mobile phone, a court heard yesterday.
Birmingham Crown Court heard that Rebecca Poole, a drama teacher at a school in the city, had sex with the 15-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - on six or seven occasions in the autumn term of 2005.
On one occasion, the boy used his mobile phone to film Ms Poole performing oral sex on him in a drama studio at the school.
Sally Hancox, opening the case for the Crown, said the relationship grew from being close and flirty to being inappropriate and unlawful.
She said that while some would see it as every schoolboy's fantasy, the relationship involved a serious abuse of trust.
On the occasion in the drama studio, said Ms Hancox, the boy used his mobile phone to record the event "for posterity or for bragging rights".
Ms Hancox told the jury that the boy "let it be known" among his friends and young relations that the relationship was taking place, and as a result his parents became aware that something untoward was going on.
They questioned him and, on finding the video on his mobile phone, contacted the police.
Ms Hancox said it was the Crown's case that the pair met outside of school a number of times, having sex in Ms Poole's car around six occasions.
During police interviews, Ms Poole initially denied having sexual relations with the boy, then admitted performing oral sex on him, but said it was "under duress".
Ms Hancox said Ms Poole told police that the teenager had held a screwdriver to the back of her head during the encounter, but added that this is not visible in the video.
Ms Poole, of May Lane, Hollywood, Birmingham, denies three charges of sexual activity with a child and one of abuse of trust with a child.
The case continues.
