Two terror suspects arrested at a north Wales port were released without charge by North Wales Police yesterday.

A 47-year-old man and a woman aged 44, both from Algeria, were arrested under the Terrorism Act at Holyhead, on Anglesey, on Friday, August 11.

Police did not believe the arrests were linked to the alleged airline bomb plot.

It is understood the man was arrested by Special Branch officers as he arrived on a ferry from Ireland.

The woman was thought to be waiting for him when arrested.

Police refused to comment on whether a raid in west Dublin was connected.

The force refused to comment on whether the couple were British citizens, related or married, or whether properties had been raided.

Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale said the couple were in possession of "several items".

Reports suggested a laptop contained documents about bomb-making, antisurveillance and assassination. Mr Wolfendale said the Metropolitan Police were aware of the arrests.
