Two Jaguars that have played a huge part in the history of the luxury car company have been shown off in London ahead of their sale.
The 1960 Jaguar E2A and the first Jaguar D-type to roll off the production line in 1955 were displayed at auctioneers Bonhams.
The E2A, seen as the “missing link” between the D-type and the E-type, is to be sold in California on August 15 and could fetch about £3.5 million.
James Knight, international Head of Bonhams’ motoring department, said: “The Jaguar E2A is absolutely one of the most significant prototypes ever produced by the mainstream motor industry, at any time, anywhere.”
The two-seater sports racing 1955 D-type will feature in Bonhams’ Goodwood Festival of Speed sale in Sussex next week, with bidding possibly reaching as high as £2.5 million
The car was in the private collection of the late Nigel Moores, nephew of the creator of the Littlewoods business empire, and is owned today by his son, James.
