Walsall have been handed an early opportunity to test themselves against high-profile opposition after they were paired with Crystal Palace in the first round of the Carling Cup.
The Saddlers will visit Selhurst Park in the third week of next season for a match that will present veteran midfielder Simon Osborn with the chance to return to the club where his career began.
Palace were relegated from the Premiership at the end of last season and Osborn knows this year's cup run could end after one match.
"It's certainly a difficult draw but from a personal point of view it'll be nice to go back there," Osborn said.
Meanwhile former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Keith Curle will return to Molineux with his Chester City team and he too will travel more in hope than expectation.
"All the foundations are in place there and they just need to recreate that promotion season. They've got great support and a great manager," Curle said.
And Coventry have been drawn away to Rushden and Diamonds just a month after they play them in a preseason friendly.
The Sky Blues thrashed the League Two club 8-0 at Highfield Road in the second round of the competition in the second round of the competition in 2002:
