Police have begun a two-day operation to arrest and question 30 men suspected of involvement in disorder in Stoke-on-Trent which followed Port Vale’s final match of last season.

Staffordshire Police said eight men arrested at the fixture at Vale Park against Shrewsbury Town on May 8 were due to answer bail during the operation, while 10 other men are due to attend a police station to be arrested and questioned.

A further 12 suspects will be visited by officers at their homes or workplaces over the next two days to be arrested in relation to their actions on the day of the match.

Chief Inspector Pete Hall, from the Stoke-on-Trent police division, said: “Over the past few years we have been working very closely with both clubs in the city to prevent football disorder, and the impact of working together now means disorder like that witnessed on May 8 is, thankfully, rare.

“We are determined to bring those responsible for this disorder to justice and place them before the courts to answer the charges against them.”
