Old Hill retained the Graham Williamson Trophy with a crushing victory over Walsall.

A ferocious innings from Mohammed Ishtiaq (85 in 58 balls), well supported by Rawait Khan (38 not out), saw the reigning champions to victory with more than 11 overs to spare.

Walsall, inserted in seaming conditions, never looked comfortable and subsided to 148 all out in the 39th over.

Only Gerrie Snyman, with 43, hinted at permanence, with the next highest score just 14.

Leg-spinner Riaz Sheikh (four for 16) and seamers Khan (two for 27) and Atiq-urRehman (two for 16) were the main wicket-takers.

In reply Old Hill raced to victory in just 28.3 overs.

MINOR COUNTIES: Herefordshire were frustrated by a fine seventh-wicket stand on the first day of their game against Cornwall at Brockhampton.

After winning the toss and inserting the opposition, Herefordshire would have been quite content to see Cornwall slip to 151 for five.

But a seventh-wicket stand of 128 between Chris Hunkin (115) and Mark Horwell (47) led the recovery and helped their side reach stumps on 375 for eight. Jonathan Kent (45) and Ben Price (45) also contributed.

Tom Glover (two for 93), Richard Parker (two for 52), Morgan Rushbrook (two for 68) and Chris Burroughs (two for 55) were the wicket takers.

The first day of Stafford-shire's game against Cambridgeshire at Leek, and Shropshire's game against Cheshire at Whitchurch, were washed out. n The Unitech Cup in Sri Lanka has been postponed due to the poor weather in the region.

The decision was made yesterday after the opening two matches of the one-day international series between Sri Lanka and India had been unable to go ahead as scheduled because of the conditions.
