Odds on former Wolves manager Mick McCarthy becoming the next Aston Villa manager have plummeted.
A total of seven bookies have made the former Ireland manager the favourite to take over at Villa Park on Tuesday afternoon (May 15).
The move appeared to start when Paddy Power made McCarthy its 11/8 favourite, but his odds were soon shortened by Skybet, Boylesports, Betvictor, Betfred, 888sport and Coral.
The search for a new manager began after Alex McLeish was sacked the day after the end of the season.
McLeish’s 11-month reign at Villa was ended with his contract being terminated after the Midlands club only avoided relegation from the Barclays Premier League by two points.
Villa owner Randy Lerner and chief executive Paul Faulkner are now beginning the search for a fourth manager in less than two years.
