The companies which run big out-door events at the Custard Factory have been served a noise abatement order following complaints from local residents about loud parties.

B9 Events and Soul Factory have been handed the notice, which means they have to stop creating a “noise nuisance” from their music which can be heard by people living nearby.

The two sister firms, along with the now-wound-up Factory Events, have been behind many of the big night-time parties at the Digbeth arts and offices complex, including the Urban Music Gathering where four people were shot earlier this year.

The move is reminiscent of the chain of events at another Digbeth venue - The Rainbow - which was served a noise abatement order last year, sparking an outcry from pub-goers and music fans and prompting UB40 to play an intimate gig in support of the venue.

A spokeswoman for Birmingham City Council said the order only related to the area under the railway arches.

She said: “We have served both B9 and Soul Factory with noise abatement notices.

“Our response has been proportionate to the complaints that we have received from residents, and the notices only cover the area under the railway arches, not the entire Custard Factory complex.

“This does not mean that no further events can take place under the arches, however, if they continue to cause further noise nuisance, we can take further legal action.”
