Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill today dismissed claims from Portuguese side Porto that he failed in a move for right-back Jose Bosingwa.
Porto president Pinto da Costa claimed earlier this week that he had rejected a Villa approach for the highly rated Portuguese international defender.
But O'Neill, who has made clear his determination to bolster the squad this summer, has refuted the claims, insisting: "We have made no bid whatsoever. It's not true.
"That doesn't mean we're not interested in players. I know this story is definitely a regurgitation because no one from Villa has spoken to anyone from Porto in the last nine months.
"This is a categorical denial from me; it's as simple as that because we haven't spoken to anyone."
