Nine people remain in police custody in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old man in Birmingham.

Officers were called to Wychall Road in the Northfield area at 1.30am on Saturday following reports a man had been assaulted, West Midlands Police said.

The man was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police investigating the death of a 50-year-old man in Northfield, Birmingham, are now treating the incident as a murder inquiry."

The victim is from the West Heath area of the city, but is not being named yet. Work by forensic officers and house-to-house inquiries are continuing, the spokeswoman added.

Detectives are currently questioning nine people, including a 22-year-old man, two men aged 19, another two males aged 18, and a 16-year-old boy.

A 19-year-old woman and two 17-year-old girls are also being quizzed in connection with the murder inquiry.
