A series of dawn raids involving 150 police officers in the Black Country saw nine men arrested.

Prompted by a series of shootings in Wolverhampton by suspected rival gang members, the third morning of raids yesterday (Oct 1) brought the number arrested to 36.

Homes in Orchard Road, Wednesfield, Crowther Street, Park Village, and Coventry Road, Birmingham, were raided at 7am.

Three men, aged 31, 47 and 65, were arrested while six others were arrested at Dovegate, Brinsford, Hewell and Oakwood prisons on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Detective chief inspector Paul Drover, said: “I genuinely believe that we’re making an impact on the lives of law-abiding local people.

“The public have been hugely supportive of our hard work and they are telling officers that they welcome our efforts to put dealers behind bars.”
