Wolves fans could be afforded their first glimpse of the future on Saturday as Kevin Doyle and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake seem set to play against Real Valladolid.

Top scorer Ebanks-Blake pulled out of Tuesday’s win at Scunthorpe with a sore toe but has recovered in time for the visit from the La Liga outfit.

And Mick McCarthy has revealed record signing Doyle could also be set for a cameo appearance on his way back from a hernia operation.

Which means if they make it on to the pitch at the same time Molineux will get a first look at the strike-pair they hope will fire them to Premier League safety following Doyle’s £6.5m move from Reading earlier this summer.

However, McCarthy is keen to stress the Republic of Ireland international will not be ready to partner Ebanks-Blake from the start of next Saturday’s season opener at home to West Ham.

“He did a bit on Thursday and we are hopeful he might be involved in the squad on Saturday, it might be only ten minutes but it would  be nice to have him in the squad,” McCarthy said.

“He is not in the Irish squad. If he does anything it will be just to get on the pitch, just for his own well-being to be back out. He is not going to be doing 45 minutes or anything like that. He is nowhere near that.

“He has been training the best he can for a man who has had an operation but he has missed quite a lot, we need to get him fully fit because he is some distance behind.”

Despite the fact triallists Bobo Balde and Jerome Thomas are not ready to face the Spaniards, McCarthy considers this final warm up match of the summer to be a good test ahead of next weekend.

“They have got good players, I spoke to Nigel Pearson the other day about them. They are technically good players and I guess just progressing in their season.

“I think it will be a bit more like a Premier League game maybe. I am hoping so anyway.”
