A survey among West Midlands businesses into the future of Birmingham New Street Station has been widened with an online version open to all companies.

The 23,000 members of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce are already being surveyed but the wider catchment will now also go towards the business case for a £350 million revamp being presented to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling in November.

Jerry Blackett, chamber policy director at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the West Midlands Business Transport Group, said: "The business case for a complete transformation of New Street Station will be strengthened by the number of companies which take part in the survey.

"We have to make the case irresistible to the Government and that includes a sizeable response of quality which clearly demonstrates the strength of feeling about a re-development."
