A mobile business school, in the form of a double decker bus, has headed into Birmingham in a bid to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs from inner city communities.

The event in Handsworth and Lozells arose from a partnership between the RBS Group and youth organisation Birmingham Leadership Foundation (BLF).

A team of Natwest business advisers visited Holte School in Lozells and South and City Birmingham College to offer business start up advice, discuss career plans and to deliver business workshops which encouraged visitors to consider their entrepreneurial abilities.

Up to 80 young people, aged 16 and upwards, were given advice. BLF director Mashkura Begum said: “We felt it particularly important to visit Handsworth and Lozells due to the fact that this area has an unemployment rate significantly higher than the city average coupled with the city’s youngest age profile. Within such inner city communities, there is a vast amount of untapped potential and business talent.”

Andrew Harrison, managing director for Royal Bank of Scotland Group in the region, who sits on the BLF non-executive board, said: “The bus is a unique way of taking the support, advice and expertise that RBS can provide out to future entrepreneurs.”
