Independent retailers in Birmingham have been provided with free radios to help tackle shop crime and anti-social behaviour.
The radios will link the independents to the Retail Crime Operation network and have been funded through a Home Office grant secured by Retail Birmingham.
The network connects over 400 businesses across Birmingham to National Car Parks, street wardens, police cameras, police crime fighting teams and British Waterway patrols.
Helen Hulston, owner of Helen Hulston Jewellery based in Great Western Arcade, said: “Having access to the radio network means our businesses will be safer and customers will feel more secure.”
Gay Faulkner, business support champion at Retail Birmingham, said: “Crime in the city centre has fallen by 18 per cent over the past 12 months. By supporting independent retailers with radios we can ensure that they benefit from the same security network as larger stores, and enable the retail sector to work together to stay safe and continue to drive down crime across the retail district.”
