Walsall youngsters' fight against obesity is to be given a shot in the arm with the creation of three children's gyms.
More than half a million pounds will be spend on the new gyms to give children aged between eight and 16 the chance to lead a more active lifestyle.
The new facilities will be built at Walsall Gala Baths, Bloxwich Leisure Centre and Oak Park Leisure Centre.
The project is being jointly carried out with Walsall Teaching and Primary Care Trust and will boost the efforts of a team of three outreach obesity workers to get children and young adults exercising and eating healthily.
Council and health chiefs secured £529,000 of funding for the project from Sport England, with Walsall's New Deal providing funding for the new fitness centre at Bloxwich.
Paul Jennings, chief executive of Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust, said: "Here in Walsall we are making an active response which will boost the health chances of our young people for the rest of their lives."
