A police investigation has been launched into the death of a 16-year-old foreign student at a top Midland boarding school.

Emergency services were called to Bromsgrove School in Worcestershire yesterday morning but the teenager was pronounced dead.

No details have yet been released on the cause of his death but police have revealed the youth's identity as Seok Yoon Park, a lower sixth pupil from Korea.

Last night Bromsgrove School head teacher Chris Edwards said the school, which charges boarders £19,000 a year, was "devastated" by the tragedy.

"It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of one of our overseas pupils.

"He had all the makings of an outstanding young man. The school community is devastated by this great loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

Seok had only been at the school for four weeks. His older brother - himself a former pupil of Bromsgrove who is now at a British university - returned to identify Seok's body.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Constabulary said: "Police were called to Bromsgrove School along the Worcester Road shortly before 8.15am.

"The death of the boy is being treated as unexplained at this time. Formal identification has yet to take place and a post mortem is expected to be launched later today."

Overseas pupils at Bromsgrove come from countries including Germany, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Korea and China.
