An 81-year-old Birmingham widow found gagged and suffocated at her home had been robbed of more than #1,000 worth of gold jewellery, police revealed today.

The body of frail Mohinder Kaur was discovered at her flat in Kings Heath by one of her sons on August 25.

The grandmother had been gagged around the mouth and robbed of 22- and 24-carat Indian gold rings, bangles and chains, West Midlands Police said.

At a press conference today, two of her sons described how their mother’s death had "shocked and traumatised" their family. Santogh Singh, 50, said: "My mother was a very happy person that was well- known to all the community in the area.

"She was not only a mother to us but to most of the people who knew her in Birmingham.

"I would like to appeal to the public, please, please help us. Come forward if you have any information at all that can help the police."
