A murder inquiry was launched in Birmingham after a 50-year-old man was shot, police said today.

The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, after being found near an address in Whitehall Road, Bordesley Green.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said officers were alerted to the sound of a gunshot at 7.49pm last night.

The spokesman said: "A man was found near the front door of the address.

"He had sustained a gunshot wound and died a short time later."

Forensic examinations are being carried out in Whitehall Road, which has been sealed off at its junction with Green Lane.
