Police investigating the suspected murder of a Polish man have found a body in an abandoned car, a spokeswoman said.

Ryszard Sawczyk, a 32-year-old married father-ofone, is thought to have been murdered at an address in Rugby, Warwickshire, last week.

Investigating officers made an appeal to help trace his Polish housemate, Maiusz Szpyt, aged 22, who disappeared from the semidetached property in Evans Road on October 19.

No body was found at the scene, but officers said there was evidence of a "significant degree of violence".

Detective Superintendent Ken Lawrence said he believed Szpyt left the house in a Polish-registered Volkswagen Golf with Mr Sawczyk's body in the boot.

On Monday night, Avon and Somerset Police received reports of a left-hand drive Golf apparently abandoned on a rural road near Taunton.

Last night police confirmed that the car was the vehicle they had been looking forward and said it had been taken away for a full forensic examination.

Mr Sawczyk, who police believe was stabbed to death in the house, was described as a "hard-working" man who came to Britain from Szczecin, north Poland, to find a job.

He worked as an agricultural labourer and sent money home to his wife and fiveyearold son.

Police describe Szpyt as being white, 5ft 6in to 5ft 10in tall, with dark blonde or brown receding hair, a round face with blue eyes and a noticeable gap in his front teeth.
