Two adults and a toddler have been taken to hospital after their car overturned on the M6 in Birmingham.

Commuters were facing severe delays following the incident, which happened on the southbound carriageway near junction 7, shortly before 3pm today.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was treated at the scene for a foot injury and the woman was placed on a spinal board as a precaution.

The child, believed to be around two years old, was not hurt but all three were taken by ambulance to City Hospital as a precaution.

Two lanes which were closed for nearly two hours following the accident have now reopened, but motorists still face congestion up to junction 11 in Cannock.

The Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford was also sent to the scene.
